Stephen McKernan, QSO

Director
Stephen is an independent health sector advisor and a director of Tend. He has earned a strong reputation operating successfully at the highest levels of the New Zealand health system, as a former Director-General of Health and Chief Executive of the Counties Manukau and Hutt Valley District Health Boards.

Stephen has consulted widely to governments, boards and organisations in New Zealand and globally, including leading the Health and Disability Transition Unit that designed the Government's reform of the New Zealand health system, and previously as head of EY's Government and Public Sector practice. He has particular expertise in health system design, organisational performance and governance, leadership development and the management of change.

As well as running his own advisory business, Stephen is Co-Chair of Odyssey Health, a member of the Auditor-General's External Advisory Group and Audit and Risk Committee, and an Executive Coach for GE Healthcare in Oceania.
